Why did you choose the law?
After leaving education, I worked as a PA to a partner in a law firm and she specialised in family law. I felt I had more to offer than the secretarial support and she supported me in studying as a legal executive so that I could further my career in the law.
Tell us a bit about how you got here…
I started my legal career as a Legal Executive in Coventry before joining the firm in 1996 and qualifying as a Solicitor in 1997. I now have more than 25 years’ experience of working with people experiencing family/relationship issues and am now a Partner at the firm and Head of our Family Department.
I am a Resolution trained Family Mediator and Collaborative Family Lawyer and am passionate about helping people to resolve the issues they face around divorce and separation in a constructive and creative way.
I am only too aware of how difficult family changes can be and how important it is, particularly for parents, to try to find a way forward that puts their needs and those of their children, first.
My approach is always to provide realistic help and advice to enable people to retain control over their situation.
I firmly believe that divorce and/or separation does not have to be a bitter and destructive experience and can help people deal with such issues with dignity and positivity for the future.

From a young age I always wanted to be an accountant. My father sowed the original seed – he was always telling me that you need an Accountant to start a business, run a business and close a business – and he should know being self-employed!
I was brought up in a household where my father would talk about cash flow pressures, staffing issues and his business tax payments.
I started my accounting career in 1987 as a Junior for a firm based in the Jewellery Quarter, moving on to a number of Birmingham accountancy practices obtaining my qualifications along the way with my focus always being on small/medium sized owner managed business.
In 2005 I was fed up with providing business advice to everyone else and being an employee didn’t wash anymore so I set up Athos Business Solutions and have never looked back since!
Since setting up Athos Business Solutions, my team and I have been instrumental in the creation of start-up businesses and have still managed to grow consistently even throughout the recession.
In the past I have provided accounting and taxation services to numerous TV celebrities, and yet the most satisfaction I have received to date, as a business owner, is that of assisting budding entrepreneurs to realise their aspirations and set up in business.
For years my focus was assisting Company Directors to get as much income into their household as tax efficiently as possible. We have now partnered up with Sally Lycett of Family Asset Protection, and a good well established Independent Financial Advisor, in order to now ensure that Directors are advised about their retirement options and also a framework can be put together so that their estate is set up in such a way IHT is kept to a minimum and the Directors legacy can be made to his grandchildren with the correct bloodline planning.
On a personal level, after years of totally focussing on my business I stumbled upon the love of my life on a blind date set up by one of my clients – within 4 years I had met, proposed, married and had two beautiful children. I now spend my spare time with my family and trying to keep up with my three year old playing footie in the garden and the park.
